How I Chose Our Bible Study Book...

Join us at 6:30pm on Wednesday Nights at Sylvester Powell Community Center as we have a small group bible study session about Prayer.

I remember the first time I was going to fly. I was nervous, scared, and excited all at the same time. Remember that feeling? For me I was 20 years old and headed to New York City on a missions trip to Teen Challenge. My favorite preacher at the time was David Wilkerson (https://worldchallenge.org/david-wilkerson) and I was excited I was actually going to be going at his church! How cool is that!!?? Well if your a preacher- going to churches is pretty fun.
"...I didn't get to see David, but I shook the back up quarterback's hand...Carter Conlon. He was surprisingly taller than I thought and sincerely humble."
Once I had my first flight under my belt and landed in NYC, we rode the train into Times Square. The surrounding buildings and the 'hustle' of New York was like nothing I had ever experienced. Once we made our way to Time Square Church it was breathtaking as I walked inside into the foyer.

As the service started I was looking all over the platform and did not see David Wilkerson on stage. They later announced that Pastor David was out of town and I was sad I didn't get to see my hero in person. After service we got to go backstage and I shook the back up quarterback's hand...the associate pastor Carter Conlon. He was surprisingly taller than I thought and sincerely humble. He smiled as we told him we were from a Bible College on a missions trip to Teen Challenge. After a few pictures we were on our way back outside doing tourist things before we traveled back to Long Island for the night. That was over 15 years ago!
Every pastor has someone they look up to in ministry- a favorite preacher they enjoy listening to and watching video podcasts. For me it has become Carter Conlon as I have been listening to him since the day I met him in 2002. His messages challenge me and are always gospel centered. I learned he was publishing a new book as I was praying about what we should do for our Wednesday Night Bible Studies.
I guess you could say- the rest is history! Join us on Wednesday Nights as we read together the book, 'It's Time to Pray' by my favorite preacher- Pastor Carter Conlon.
